From Corporate to Work From Home Mom
My journey as an online entrepreneur (also known as mompreneur)started in 2018 when I started staying home with my oldest daughter. I never saw myself as a stay at home mom. I actually loved working and loved what I was doing.
In fact, my last job before entrepreneurship was by far my favorite. I had a boss that was so great to work for, and he was extremely knowledgeable so I learned so much from him. But I hated leaving my daughter. Having her simply changed everything.
I remember going back to work after my short 6-week maternity leave. I had just changed jobs when I found out I was pregnant, so I didn’t get the normal 12 weeks off. It seemed way too fast, and was way harder than I thought it would be. I felt like I was missing all her firsts. Her first time rolling over, crawling, speaking words.
All of it was happening while I was at work or during my long commute. I would come home, get her from the babysitter, make supper, and maybe get two hours with her each night. So 10 hours total per week? I just couldn’t do it anymore.

So like many other moms, I started staying home with her. What was supposed to be a stay at home mom position became a stay at home working mom.
Don’t get me wrong, we budgeted and knew we could live on one paycheck, but my first freelance job came up through my network and I felt like I had to take it. I’m so glad I did because I realized I could not only stay home and enjoy my time with her, but I could also make money while I did.
And let’s face it we COULD make it work on one income, but did we really want to? The extra income has definitely been a nice perk, and it helps set us up for financial freedom.
Because being your own boss means uncapped financial freedom. If you work harder, you’re making yourself more money. Instead of just making more money for the company you work for. And you aren’t limited to just your salary.
I’ve since transitioned out of freelance done for you work and now help in more of a coach and digital products creator capacity. So my work is my time in a 1:1 capacity or it’s digital products that I create ahead of time and sell online.
But the freelance life is how I got started, and it’s how I made my income when I first started staying home. In fact, I was working about 12-15 hours per week (usually just 12) and making about 60% of my corporate salary.
It felt like a much better work to life balance. I was still making very good money, but only working when my daughter napped. With one to two kids, this is a very viable option.
Once I had my third, things became harder to manage. So a babysitter came into the mix for two days a week, so still doing my normal 12 hours per week. But can this be done? The answer is a resounding yes.
It all starts with figuring out your why. Why do you want to stay home and work. Why do you want to escape your 9-5 job? Your “why” is your basis for everything you do in your online business. It’s what you build your business around, what drives you and gives you purpose, and it fuels your passion for actually taking action and getting things done.
So, what’s your why? Do you want to stay home with your kids? Do you want more time to experience life? Do you want financial independence? Maybe you don’t want to escape your 9-5, but simply supplement it to make even more and retire early.
Do you want to travel more and have the flexibility to work from anywhere? Maybe you want to have a business that gives your purpose and helps others, but you only want to work during the school year and take your summers off to spend with your kids.
Whatever your why, it’s what drives you and what you design your life and business around. Figure that out, and you’re on your way to a successful business. that gives you the flexibly lifestyle you crave.
Tips for Making the Transition Easier
The transition from a corporate job to being a work from home mom can be both exciting and daunting. While the idea of working from home can be appealing, it can also be challenging to balance work and family life. Here are some tips that can help you make the switch with ease:
1. Set Clear Goals and Priorities
Before you make the transition to working from home, it is important to set clear goals and priorities. This will help you stay focused and organized, and ensure that you are making the most of your time. Take some time to think about what you want to achieve in your new role, and what your priorities are. Write them down and refer to them often to stay on track.
3. Create a Dedicated Workspace
One of the challenges of working from home is creating a space that is conducive to work. It is important to create a dedicated workspace that is separate from your living space. This will help you stay focused and minimize distractions. Set up a desk, comfortable chair, and any other equipment you need to do your job. Make sure your workspace is well-lit and organized to maximize your productivity.
4. Establish a Routine That Works for You and Your Family
Working from home can be a blessing and a curse. While it allows you to have more flexibility in your schedule, it can also be difficult to separate work and family life. Establishing a routine that works for you and your family can help you stay on track. Decide on your working hours and stick to them as much as possible. Communicate your schedule with your family and make sure they understand when you are available and when you need to focus on work.
5. Stay Focused and Motivated
Working from home can be challenging, especially when you are used to the structure and routine of a corporate job. It is important to stay focused and motivated by reminding yourself of your reasons for making the switch. Whether it is to spend more time with your family, have more flexibility in your schedule, pursue a passion, or travel more, keep your goals in mind and stay motivated to achieve them.
By following these tips, you can make the transition from a corporate job to being a work from home mom with ease. Remember to stay organized, create a dedicated workspace, establish a routine, and stay focused and motivated. With these tools, you can achieve success in your new role and enjoy the benefits of working from home.

The Benefits of Working from Home
The benefits of working from home are numerous, and I can attest to that first hand! The most significant advantage for me was the flexibility to work around my family’s schedule. Being able to attend all of my children’s school events and not having to worry about a strict work schedule was life-changing.
Another benefit of working from home is the ability to save money on transportation costs. You don’t have to worry about the expenses of daily commuting, such as gas, tolls, or public transportation fees. This can help you save a significant amount of money each year, which you can use to invest in other areas of your life.
Working from home also eliminates the stress of rush hour traffic, which can be a major source of frustration for many people. Instead of spending hours each day sitting in traffic, you can use that time to be more productive or spend time with your family and friends.
Another advantage of working from home is the ability to create a more relaxed work environment that promotes productivity and creativity. You can set up your workspace in a way that suits your needs and preferences, whether that means working in a quiet room or playing music in the background. This can help you feel more comfortable and focused, which can lead to better work performance.
Working from home also provides a greater degree of autonomy and control over your work schedule. You can set your own hours and take breaks when you need them, which can help you manage your workload more effectively. Additionally, you don’t have to worry about office politics or distractions from coworkers, which can be a major source of stress in traditional office settings.
In summary, working from home offers a variety of benefits that can improve your quality of life and work performance. From increased flexibility to cost savings and a more relaxed work environment, it’s no wonder that more and more people are choosing to work from home.

Finding the Right Balance Between Work and Family
The key to being a successful work-from-home mom is to find the right balance between work and family. It can be tempting to work all hours of the day, but it’s essential to set boundaries and prioritize your family’s needs.
One way to find balance is to create a schedule that allows for a healthy mix of work and family time. Start by setting aside specific times for work and specific times for family activities. This will help you stay organized and focused, and it will also ensure that you don’t miss out on important family moments.
Another way to find balance is to make sure that you take breaks throughout the day. It can be easy to get caught up in work and forget to take care of yourself, but taking breaks can help you recharge and refocus. Consider taking a short walk, doing some yoga, or simply taking a few minutes to relax and breathe deeply.
My favorite break is to grab a drink and sit on my front porch for 15 minutes. It’s relaxing, and just the right amount of time rejuvenate me and my brain. It really helps keep the creative juices flowing.
It’s also important to remember that you don’t have to do it all alone. Reach out to family members and friends for help when needed. Having a support system can make all the difference when it comes to finding balance and managing your workload.
Finally, consider outsourcing tasks that take up too much of your time. For example, if you find that you’re spending too much time on household chores, consider hiring a cleaning service or asking your partner or children to help out more. This will free up more time for you to focus on work and family activities.
Remember, finding the right balance between work and family is an ongoing process. Be patient with yourself, and don’t be afraid to make adjustments to your schedule as needed. With a little bit of planning and effort, you can find the balance that works best for you and your family.
